A brand new company offering brand new technology was showing off its wares at the Global Petroleum Show in Calgary.
Earth Charge’s motto is “reducing your carbon emissions one product at a time.”

Myron Friesen, president of Earth Charge, based in Edmonton, said they attended the GPS to make people aware of the company’s main product line of Energy P.O.D. battery inverted generators.
“We’ve got portable power without gas or diesel. We’ve taken a battery operated idea and maximized it’s potential by using a 100 per cent environmentally friendly battery,” he said. “The batteries can go straight into the landfill. They are completely sealed.”
The batteries, which have a 10-year life expectancy, are manufactured by Hutterite colonies in Manitoba.
While great for the oil and gas industry, the generators are also being snapped up by people to use at their cottages over the summer.
“The generators can be hooked up to solar or wind power,” Friesen said.
For use in the oil and gas industry, the units are often mounted on pick up trucks.
“Driving to and from the job site will charge them or at night they can be plugged in,” said Friesen.
The Energy P.O.D.’s battery inverted generators include sizes of 2500W, 5000W, and 8000W and contain no moving parts.
They are almost silent, with a sound decibel level of 0.05dB at seven feet, much quieter than the sound of rustling leaves.
With a tax on carbon emitting products being imposed in British Columbia, the Energy P.O.D. is a great solution because it does not create emissions, Friesen said.
“And they have zero maintenance,” he added.
